Sailor's Knife - Japan

The handle is stamped Teto or Telo [under a sailboat]. Does anyone know when this knife was made or anything about the company that made it? It seems to be a tough little knife with good snap. What is that goofy looking blade used for? Thanks, Al

The goofy looking blade is to pull rope or knots.

The master blade was originally flat on the edge;sharpening has caused it to curve slightly.The marlin spike is indeed to help separate threads of rope in order to make either fancy knots or a ball end.The other device is a shackle key used on sail boats.

The name brand is Telo, the company that imports them is Davis Instruments, based in California.

The new ones are made in China.

The blades have been identified in a previous post, all I will add is that the center liner extends out to form a screwdriver for repair work on a sail boat, yacht, etc. So you would have 4 tools to work with.

The knife is not very old and they can be bought new for $20-25. On the secondary market they sell for around $10.

I don`t have any information about when they had them made in Japan versus the ones now made in China.
