Camillus 50th Ann. VE Day...

I've got a chance to pickup a NIB 1995 Camillus VE Day commemorative Army pocket knife with box and papers. What do these normally sell for today? I guess it is basically a copy of the four blade WWII service pocket knife. Thanks, TDcase ....

Dale, I'll try and get some on this evening. A friend has it and it appears NIB to me. Box says, 50th Anniversary V-E Day "Germany Surrenders" May 8, 1945. The box also has S1760E on it which I guess was a model number. It is basically the WWII service pocket knife. Tang stamp says Camillus 1995. Anyway, I'll get some pics up. Thanks, Tony

The knife is what Camillus called a MIL-K.
Sometimes referred to as a Demo Knife by some people, thought it had nothing to do with demolitions.

These are not expensive knives by themselves, about $20-$30 on ebay in near mint condition.
The etch on the blade no doubt adds collector value to your knife, but I couldn't put a dollar value on it.
Maybe $50 to the right person? It is hard to say.

It is a common knife (millions made) with an uncommon etch.
Hard for me to place a value on it.

We are mostly all knife collectors here........
What do the rest of you think?
What would you be willing to pay for this knife?
This should give us a general idea of the value since the value is established by what people (collectors) are willing to pay.

Thanks for taking a look at the knife! I liked it when my friend showed it to me and in the end I bought because I didn't have one like it, g. I paid $30 for it and was a little reluctant to do so, but I'm happy with it. I'll add it to my meager collection Thanks again and I'll see if anyone else chimes in. Tony

Hello. I'm new to this site. I have a similar knife. But it says "end of world war 2" "50th anniversary " on one side of the main blade. On the other side it says "Lest it be repeated ". Also is stamped 422/500. Am I looking at the same value?

Hi smithy, welcome to AAPK!

It would be helpful to see pictures of your knife also.
Pictures are always helpful in determining what a knife is and the value of it.

Tony posted the pics of his knife about 1-1/2 years ago. I expect the value of his knife has risen somewhat in that period of time. I would not feel bad about asking $75 for his knife today.

If your knife is also made by Camillus in the USA, I suspect it is worth as much, perhaps a little more with the numbers. It is always hard to say, especially in the knife market today where many people are selling off collections to pay their rent. But in general terms, a numbered knife is usually more valuable than one that is not numbered. Also the smaller the numbered run, the more the knife is worth, usually. A knife that is 1 of 50 is generally worth more than a knife that is 1 of 5000.

The trouble in dealing with limited edition runs is that there are usually not enough of them made to become very popular. Then one has to look at the subject matter; if the subject that is being commemorated is popular, the knife is generally worth more because it has appeal to a wider audience & therefore more potential buyers. WWII is a popular subject for commemoratives with a broad appeal; however the fact that there are numerous WWII commemoratives probably lessens the value a bit. Then one must look at other factors like, the nature of the commemorative item, is it a rare pattern, does that company make a lot of commemoratives, etc? Then it becomes a matter of making an educated guess at the value unless you can find somewhere that the same items have been sold recently. This is where ebay can be helpful if the same item has sold there recently, but often you cannot find where the same item has sold recently so then you have to rely on your knowledge of the knife market in general, the value of knives made by that company, etc.

I am sorry to be so obscure, but I cannot in good conscience, give a hard fast value to your knife, especially without seeing pictures of it.
Perhaps if you post some pictures I or someone else can give you a more accurate value for your knife.
