Rare! Vintage! (in ads)
This is a bit tongue in cheek, but I am pretty sure I am not the only one amused by how many RARE! VINTAGE! knives were made by Camillus. I mean, they must have made about 3 gazillion knives and per definition something that is rare was never made in those quantities, but just about every ad you see classifies the knife as RARE!

You're right Smoke. Both words have been used until they've lost their meaning. There was a thread on this subject back in August. Thought you might be interested in reading some of the posts. http://www.allaboutpocketknives.com/kni ... =2&t=25119

Jerry, I had a look - some very good points in that posting. I guess at the end of the day it is up the individual to educate himself to the point where he/she can sift the BS from the real gold...

Pretty much. I just get sick of seeing those terms used to describe an item up for auction. Sometimes there's not another word that fits and now it doesn't have the impact it should. Honks my horn when there's fifteen in a row up for auction and each one is labeled "Rare".

Me too - or even worse - the same seller has more than one of those up on auction at the same time - or even sometimes these "rare" knives are up for sale in one lot of 4!!Honks my horn when there's fifteen in a row up for auction and each one is labeled "Rare".
Ah well, like you say, it soon becomes meaningless and you just sift the BS from the gold. Like you also point out, the downside is that it works to the detriment of those that are truly rare...
