Robeson POCKETEZE knives with bronze colored shields

Charlie or anyone else, have you seen Pocketeze knives with the bronze colored shield like these examples? I read somewhere (maybe Tom K's book) that the breonze colored Pocketeze shield indicated a Pocketeze knife that also has the Permalube bearings. May be wrong on that. I won the two blade pen and it seems "normal" in terms of the tangs/backsprings.

I have several premium pearl handled Robeson knives with gold colored PocketEze shields. None of them have the PermaLube bearings on the backsprings.

However, note that I said "gold" colored shields. Mine do not look nearly so bronze as yours.

Open one or more blades and look at the end of the knife. The PermaLube bearings are a box shaped piece of bronze inset into the interior aspect of of the backspring so the back of the tang rides on it when opening and closing. If they're there, you should see them.

There was a Robeson pearl handled stockman on Ebay the other day, same pattern and same number as that one, 73287 (732087 actually), but it had no shield.

Here are a few more.
Notice, these shields are more gold colored than bronze.
Actually, the shields are some kind of composite material with a thin foil layer on top.

Thanks Charlie - those are some outstanding pieces you posted. Of the two I posted, I own the two blade pen, the other three blade is from an Ebay auction that ended the other day ($100 buy it now).

Maybe the shields on the ones that I posted are more bronze like due to tarnish?

I will look again but I did not see anything different on the backspring on mine.

Another question - did any (or all) of the Permalube knives have plain bronze colored shields?

I do not know that I have ever seen a Permalube other than one broken up junker that I had that did have a plain bronze shield.

Steve, PermaLube knives were a short lived line, I think, and they did not produce very many patterns.

I think WWII was probably responsible for the ending of the line.

Most PermaLube knives had the usual shields, oval, elliptical, bar, etc., but they were bronze. I know they produced at least one PocketEze Permalube knife. They also made their four blade scout/utility in the PermaLube line, as they had in the previous MasterCraft line of bronze bearing knives.

I have one PermaLube knife. It is a small three blade in a true whittler configuration. It has a bronze bar shield and the master is etched "PermaLube Oiless Bearings".

I have another similar two blade pen with a bronze bar shield, but I cannot detect bronze inserts to be present on the knife. Maybe it is, maybe it isn't.

Thanks for the permalube info Charlie. I recall seeing in a knife magazine an old Robeson factory photo of a whole display of permalubes but I don't recall much about it. Yeah I was bummed about that three blade pearl...it had an opening bid of 69.95 and a buy it now of 100 but by the time I clicked on it it had already sold.
