Flat guard on swivel bolster?

New here and have a question about flat guards. Are they only available on picklocks or are they available on swivel bolsters too?. Couldn't find anything about it online.

I would say there is 0% chance of flat guards in a swivel bolster stiletto.

Thanks for the answer I had to ask because I have a switchblade that seems to have a flatter guard than usual, but maybe it's called something else? I'm a beginner who wants to learn

Thanks for posting more pictures. It actually looks a little unique with the brass pivot pin for the blade and the flat block plate without the two lines to embellish it. Do you have more pics of the knife?

Anybody on this forum can ask questions or ask for appraisals and I’ll do them all for free. I just enjoy sharing that knowledge with everybody and making the hobby a better place.

Here are a couple pictures of two real flat guards. I think to fully understand what a flat guard is knife guys need to know that each side was made up of two pieces, the guard strap and the top part of the bolster, and they were soldered together. If you look at this angle from the bottom of the knife, you can see where there’s a split and a little seam connecting the two pieces.

The middle line where the two pieces connects usually you’ll see a seam of solder there too, making a nice fit between the two pieces

I have to question if this knife is Italian or possibly
a 1975-1990s European copy. Are the handles plastic?

I thought it was Italian, but maybe it's a copy, as you say, I don't even know where I got it from .

Your knife is probably Italian made; I have two nine inch and one eleven inch stilettos, horn scales with these solid cast bolsters. All three of my examples are marked Rostfrei, two in a slant script and one in block print san serif. Time frame is approximately late 60's to early 70's, probably more on the 70's side of time. Mostly these era knives have thinner 3.5 mm blade and spring stock, sometimes 3mm for the 9 inch and under, and 3.5mm on the 11 incher, which can feel kinda flimsy. This was due to periodic steel shortages though the 70's-80's. No guarantees though, just probably.

That couldn't be older than 30-40 years.Look at button position and the liners are short they don't go I understand bolster ears.Has that plastic texture like the Korean Rizzuto copies.
