Very cool, almost looks brand new Garry. I've only ever seen these pretty beat-up from use. It's refreshing to see a nice n' shiny copy!

It is virtually brand new, Marco. The importer, who also makes fixed blades, brings these in from Nepal. Another source is Atlanta Cutlery who brings in all the military spec Kukris. The prices are not at all bad especially given the cutting ability one gets.

QS, what is the purpose of the dingus between the blade and the bolster? Neat looking kukri!

Steve, the correct answer to your question is that no one knows for sure. There are many theories. The one that I'm inclined to favor is that it is a Hindu fertility symbol. Also it reminds the Gurkha that he will not harm women or children.

Is it the 2 little notches in the blade you're referring to Garry?

Great photos!!! I love Kukris! I love them so much I flew to Nepal several years ago and brought back a pack full of them. I traveled to different towns around Nepal on a "Kukri quest" of sorts trying to find some older ones and some blacksmiths making them as well.

I have heard it called a blood dripper, so as blood runs down the blade it hits that spot and is force to fall of the blade. I have also heard that it represents a cow hoof like that of Nandi, also known as Nandikeshwara or Nandideva, who is the bull ridden by the Hindu god Shiva. And of course it is said it represents a lingus...

Well, I have been to 50 countries and I can't seem to break that 50 mark, Mark I just can't seem to break that 50 number and land in a new country...I want to keep seeing new places, But I have not done much traveling out of the US lately. getting a dog, plus several other things and of course Covid has had a lot to do with it Covid is the worst! it has ruined my travel planes going on 3 years now

Very good Dog! Plenty of home grown Canadians don't know the words to our National Anthem. I did a 2 day train trip from home here in Winnipeg, MB. to Vancouver, B.C., and as much fun as it was, I was kindda happy when it ended. Mind you, we didn't rent a berth or any sort of private room, so we were doing everything from coach where there's really nothing but hard uncomfortable seating. Under those circumstances sleeping is a bit rough. Going through the Rocky Mountains in the dome-car was a highlight of the trip, something everyone should experience.
A funny thing happened on that trip. As soon as we boarded we headed for the bar-car for drinks, which were served to us no questions asked, but when we ordered our 3rd round the barman asked us for I.D.. When we asked him why he wants I.D. now but not when we first boarded, he replied "When you ordered your first drinks you were in Manitoba where the legal age is 18, but now you're in Saskatchewan where the legal age is 19, so you got some I.D.?" So, we had to wait for another 18 legal age province to resume our partying! Who'd of thunk legal age applies on a moving train!

Thanks Garry. I was getting some answers but no one was pin-pointing on the notches, so I was unsure if that was the section of the knife we were talking about.
