Thanks guys... I guess the devil is in the details... Too many knife companies making knives for other companies for me to keep track of. I think I'll just stick to appreciating knives for their beauty. Kind of like Just Plain Dave and his spear blade fetish - except I'm more of handle guy!

I fit the "blade fetish" label. A nice fat Spear clothed almost any way is thing of zen beauty!!!

Most of the Scouts fit the bill!

I feel good enough about the fit, finish and sharpness of the RR I already have I've got this on my wishlist:

One of the myriad Scout knives that Camillus made was a Signal Scout knife, which had plastic (or cell?) handles with a bunch of images of flag signals on the handles. The shield on this knife also had flags on it. This one's a Camillus Sword Brand, with the same setup as Sswingles' knife.

Charlie C., if you're referring to the NYK shield, other than the fact that I've seen a few of them I'm not too familiar with that one. One thing I'd like to suggest is that everyone who has knives with upside down shields please send 'em to me for proper disposal

I respectfully submit that the shield is only upside down if you are looking at it the wrong way.

And I submit that with a fine Spear main I could give a hoot if the shield is upside down or missing all together!!!

I've taken to toting a Scout so I can go back to a simple pry bar on my key "chain". The bottle cap lifter you see....

I am not a Scout Knife collector per se; but I collect interesting knives and this old Imperial falls into that category.

Instead of being a frame lock, the best I can describe this knife is that it is a "Frame Spring" knife.

When it opens the cam action of the tang pushes the frame down out of alignment and supplies the spring tension to get the blade to snap open & closed.

Pretty ingenious I think!

I don't know much about this scout knife. Tang is stamped Utica Cutlery Co. I like the jigged bone handles!

Nice Utica Sswingle! That punch, seen on other brands, will often indicate a contract knife, by Utica!

That one was manufactured by Schrade if I am not mistaken, and is a remake of the first ever official Boy Scout knife.

With a few differences in length of tools and fullness of blade that knife is closest to what my Grandpas' 1919-1940 Case Scout looks like!

Personally I'd rather have the older knives...

These two got NOTHING to do with BSA but ARE of the correct pattern:

Got pics of a few more.

First is a German fixed blade that my dad gave me sometime in the mid 1960's, it has no stampings but one side reads in a faded etch: "Filus Solingen Stainless" (Filus was the name of the store where it was bought). It came with a bone handle made in two parts pinned together which soon became loose, I took it apart and rehandled it with stacked pieces of 3mm plywood.

Second is a typical BSA folder from around the year 2000, it is stamped "Imperial Prov. RI. USA", though I think that it was made by Camillus. I have sharpened it and tied a lanyard but have not used it much.

Third are three Imperial Ireland from the Schrade factory in Listowel Ireland, originally with sheet metal bolsters, I have rehandled them with molded epoxy putty, note that one has a Mexican 5 centavo coin as a shield, the one that kept the bolsters has a stainless can opener, all other blades are carbon.
