Where Are All The Remington Knife Collectors?

They're well built and designed knives. I read either in Sargent's or Levine's book that all serious pocket knife collections contain a Remington Muskrat.

Sargent’s 3rd edition had this to say “This Remington Office Knife is very rare because of one feature.
The spear blade is marked Circle Remington and the spay blade is marked straight line Remington which would be called a transition knite. I have never seen this marking before. You will see quite a few transitions marked Remington Circle UMC and Remington Circle.”


The value given was $150, how would you use that information, tribal knowledge and the images to get a “real world” “right now” value?

The majority of smaller knives will have different tang stamps on them. The pen blades are usually marked like yours because the tangs are smaller. Only the main blade is used for dating a Remington knife.

For sure Keith and also Sargent 3rd addition was in 1992 before the internet took off and made rare knives not as rare anymore .
I’m sure the 150.00 estimate was for a knife in mint condition , the OP knife is far from that .

The Remington trademark was allowed use in conjunction with specific market brands such as Purina (and there are several big name brands such as Juicy Fruit, Baby Ruth, Pacific Railroad just to name a few) as giveaways, purchase incentives and other marketing ploys. The Remington brand was synonymous with high standards of quality, reliability and craftsmanship. It was a great selling point!

Your post reminded me of back when I was a young collector. It was late 1960s/early 1970s, a group of collectors met monthly, after hours, at Carlson’s Sporting Goods just off the square in McKinney, TX. Carlson’s was a big Case dealer and authorized repair center for several knife brands. One of the regular attendees was an M.D., IIRC Dr. Beck, who had the finest collection of Remington pocket knives I have ever seen, including mint versions of every Bullet pattern. When we were examining a Baby Ruth Remington he said when he was a youngster there was a general store in his hometown, where he and his buddies would frequently buy candy bars, and as they exited toss the accompanying knife up onto the roof of the store! Of course he was now wishing he had all those knives they so casually threw away.

The other thing I remember is that he was always accompanied by his special needs son about my age, who collected Case. I also liked Case but his son had a far better collection than I could even imagine having at the time!

love the story Ken… wish there were still gatherings at the old country store and around the wood stove. Not quite the same over social media. Young and old swapping stories and memories were priceless times…as well those special memories of our youth.

In all of my collection I only have 15 Remington knives. Here is a peanut and small stockman with
the metal display container and still in the retail store package. I have two of them.

Question: Should I leave them as is or remove them from the packaging and display them in the metal container?

Those are not early Remingtons so unless you want to make users out of them, I'd leave them where they are.
