Re: WHAT ARE YOU CARRYIN RIGHT NOW? WHAT IS YOUR FAV EDC?
I posted some rather poor picts early in this thread and figured it was about time to take some better ones. These are my current favorite EDC's, but my rotation changes from time to time as I'm easily bored. Generally, I prefer the jacks and carry one or more of these; smaller knives in my right front pocket and the larger ones in a belt sheath. The Uncle Henry has OT carbon steel blades and the '99 Case is an old cel handled knife that went bad, one of my first rehandles (mule deer with a Schrade shield). These are various steels, including ATS34, D2, and 420HC, but mostly good ol' carbon. Knives over 4 1/2 inches closed sometimes get me odd looks.

Nice muskrat! How do you like the Eye Brand? I have a Stag Whittler pattern in route right now. I also like the Queen Mountain Man ... I've got several Queens in the honey amber stag bone and I'm looking at picking up the Mountain Man next.noddy wrote:Today, it is the muskrat in this pic

Re: WHAT ARE YOU CARRYIN RIGHT NOW? WHAT IS YOUR FAV EDC?
These ones are among my favourite pieces, Greg - and the Mountain Man might be by favourite pattern - it is certainly the handiest and outpaces many things by Spyderco/Reeve etc of similar scope
The stag one in 1095 is tricky to find by Moore Maker (and I think still Col. Coon) make an almost identical thing. I really like the Queen slipjoint Mountain Man too
@Gunstock - that S&M swayback has been appearing in my dreams

Re: WHAT ARE YOU CARRYIN RIGHT NOW? WHAT IS YOUR FAV EDC?
Noddy; the swaybacks are one of my favorite patterns. I like the size and the style, although too big for a pants pocket. That particular knife is another hard to find item, as that was the only year they made them in ATS34 (F&W series 1 edition 4; they also made the same knife in 420HC, I believe). Swaybacks in 420HC are readily available, though. I picked that one up recently on the bay. It had been slightly used but never sharpened. I put a nice polished edge on it, but the jury is still out as to whether I like it as well as the GEC 73's. I'll need a few more weeks with her before I make a final judgment. Here's a few more to gander at: the elephant ivory is by Wendell Carson (Fightin' Bull) and the F&W is another one available in ATS34. The swaybacks are 4 1/8 in. and the jumbo trappers are 4 1/2 inches closed.

When carryin' a larger knife, it's usually one of these. Moore Maker in buffalo horn (by Camillus?) or a Queen Mtn. Man I handled in mammoth ivory.

I usually carried a Victorinox Officier; these knives are hard to beat. But have started carrying this Bulldog moose; with Mammoth bark ivory; sits in my pocket well not to big or small.

Usually for work I have a 08 Case Sodbuster Jr. or a 08 Case 18 pattern stockman. Depending on where I am going my carry is either a H&R small congress, Gerber E-Z Out, or a Kershaw Scallion.

Jack, that is some beautiful stuff you have there. I'm afraid I'd be packin' it and scratchin' it.
Well looking closer, I guess you did. .......... Too bad those makers don't stamp somewhere else, eh.

Re: WHAT ARE YOU CARRYIN RIGHT NOW? WHAT IS YOUR FAV EDC?
A lot has changed for me recently, but I'm now at 8 months with the same pocketknife! Early December last year I picked up my Canal Street Cannittler (I know cause I went and checked when I posted the pics). And after eight months, it is the one that sees the most pocket time. (About once a week I might carry something else for fun...usually something Victorinox).
Current Knife Status: It is starting to take on a nice used look. The bolsters are heavily scratched. The Ram's horn is starting to polish a bit. The CS shield has taken on a nice patina. The D2 blades are almost factory sharp, I've never sharpened it! They have started to patina a little bit along the spine and near the joints.
My thoughts after 8 months of carry and use: It has a blade big enough, tough enough, and strong enough to handle anything I need done in a day. It is a heavy enough knife that at some point I would like try out a belt sheath for it. Pocket carry doesn't bother me as long as its in comfortable pants. Jeans, work pants, etc. I certainly would not like any knife that was larger or heavier.
The two smaller blades are very handy but not as precise as my former edc (an Eye whittler) as they are considerably larger than a regular whittlers small blades; this has only annoyed me a couple times.
Most often paired with: the skeletool. Carrying the skeletool with the cannitler gives me good blades, screwdrivers, pliers, and a beater blade. This handles 90% of tasks. If I feel I am going to need more than that...they both stay home and out comes the SOG. Although if I think I am just gonna be sitting around being bored I bring the Vic Scientist and try to set things on fire with the magnifying glass.
