Re: Outdoorsman Thread
Had the grandson and 3 of their friend out on a mission last Sunday! One was a newbie who informed his parents we were using knives and hatchets......LOL. Another parent(female) told the newbie parent.....yeah, that's what they do on missions!!
They worked over this downed red maple and built a massive lean to. (They're getting big enough for me to call it what it really is, not a "fort" anymore.)

Great leannto Scott, and great deer too guys.
I've been skunked so far on the deer. For some reason they've changed up their travel patterns. But I think I have them nailed down now. Hopefully tomorrow I can get back after them.

For some reason Scott I found it lol humorous that they must now shift from fort to lean to. Wonder what adjustment went on in their minds. I suspect it made them feel more adult.

Scott if i lived in your area i would want to join your band of adventurers; forts (up in trees), lean to's(on the ground), hobo meals, that's some of the most fun you can have.
It is a great service you do for these boys. They are learning how to do real things, hands on which has gone from being a part of childhood for all. Children now spend their time in front of a screen which stunts brain development.
If all children had the opportunity to do what 'your' boys do, our world would be a better place in 20 years time.
You have my respect Sir.

I too echo all the accolades to Scott! This is EXACTLY what children need these days. Learning real skills. Thanks to you Scott! Well done!
I was just in Florida and my 10 yr old granddaughter is a real tom-boy. She has learned how to shoot a real Bow, with practice arrows. While visiting, my son told her to pull out her new favorite book.... A survival book with bushcraft in it!! On our next year camping trip, I suggested he bring her along and we'll show her some of these same skills. You should have seen her face! She was so excited!

As long as there are guys like Scott around, there is still hope for the younger generation. My barber told me this morning that his 12 year old Granddaughter has just killed her first deer, WITH A BOW & ARROW!! I am impressed beyond words.

I have no proof, but I think that Scott and his Adventurers "Lean To" is a secret entrance to Scott's underground Knife Museum that he visits occasionally and pulls out a few knives every week and post's them here just to tease us with.
