Re: Outdoorsman Thread
My boss and I were walking the property of his new home recently and found this out back. It's a bow hunting only county so it looks like I will have to brush up on my archery skills a bit.

Watched that several times and finally had to go full screen before I saw the snake.
Dads' old Stevens Favorite, it may have even belonged to Papaw at one time, I just can't remember. It's killed hogs at butcherin' time, squirrels, rabbits, coons, fence posts, cans, bottles and dirt clods. The extractor is nearly plumb wore out but it still shoots as good as the shooter (which for me has become not very well).

Knice find Greg!!
That is awesome JErry!!
Last might I made a fire at my nephews home. I'm so fortunate to have a nephew who is ok with hanging with one of his elders. We talked, drank and enjoyed a fire from wood we had gathered throught the year.
WHAT'S Double the blessing......is the gear I used to make wood shavings and what I used to spark the those shavings with to start out fire:
CONDOR BUSHCRAFT - Philco
Antler horn striker -Ivoryman
Kershaw Storm - 313Mike
These items were gifts from the fellas listed above.
Thanks again for your friendship and kindness guys! I'm honored and remember you often!

Always enjoy this part of the AAPK forum!
Greg, that buck might have been a whopper in a year or so with all stickers!
Scott, you're a great ambassador for the outdoors and folks here on the forum appreciate what you do!
Jerry, if that old Stevens wasn't tied to your family, I'd try to trade you a couple of pocket knives for it
!
Found out last night, a young feller we attend church with, killed a big gobbler, it had a 12" beard, 1 1/4" spurs and weighed in at 23 pounds! Maybe I can post a picture of it later in the week. He said it was the 1st turkey he had killed in the afternoon.

Here is the turkey our young friend killed Monday afternoon. His weight was 23 pounds, his beard is close to 12 inches and his spurs were 1 1/4"! This young feller also killed the #10 buck in the state of Florida in the 2014-2015 season. For your viewing pleasure his afternoon turkey and also last year's big buck

Wow, a lot going on here - those old Steven's are neat rifle's, more so as family pieces. Cool find Greg, if you can hang a ring on it, it counts as a point - that's a cool deer. Phil, your young buddy should buy one of those $200 million dollar lottery tickets - he has the luck of the Irish in him - nice buck and nice bird! OH

Re: Outdoorsman Thread
Very nice photos, fellows. I appreciate y'all sharing you expeditions. I have not been taking any photos on my last few outings but seeing the ones posted here remind me that I should. Love the spillway clearing photo, Larry. I know from experience that breaking a beaver dam is a lot harder than anyone who has never tried will believe! At least you had good help.
Nice trout, Jerry, but what a view! My wife and I were out fishing on Friday. The fish were not biting but we saw three bald eagles along with loons, pelicans, ducks herons ... I sure pay a lot more attention the birds and the beauty of nature when the fish are not biting. When the trout are hitting hard, my wife can say "Bald Eagle" and I barely look up!

Appreciate the kind words OH and Mel, my grandson had a ball busted up the dam. The Beavers didn't waste any time building it back. Here a picture of the new dam and pond

I saw a very nice nickel plated Hopkins & Allen lever action, falling block .22 in an antique mall last Wednesday.
Nice old rifle.
Priced at a bit over $200.00, as I recall.

Looks like the Beavers are winning, I tear down their dam during the day and they build it back at night. I've try shooting at them but they are quick.

I agree they are not easy targets. But think of the positive side of this: if you tear that dam down every day you will be in terrific condition after a few weeks. Based on my experience, breaking a beaver dam is a lot better workout than I used to get at the gym!jlw257 wrote:Looks like the Beavers are winning, I tear down their dam during the day and they build it back at night. Re: Outdoorsman Thread
Had the grandsons for a few days and mentioned our shootin' house project in the 1st Cup Diner. Philco reminded me to post some pictures of what we were doing. There were several pictures at the beginning and then mother and grandmother disappeared when they should have been recording all of this event for posterity
.
Here are a few pictures and of course, we're not done, but all it need besides paint, is to build a door, cut a couple of windows, and add the standing seam metal roof. The roof will have a 12" overhang/eve on all 4 sides, the box is 4' X 6' X 6'6" tall. We'll drag it to a remote food plot when we get it finished in a week or so. This will be for the boys to hunt from on Thanksgiving weekend.
The boys did the math, the measuring and the marking to cut the material, I did the saw work and they both learned to use the nail guns. The siding is 3/8" T-111 and we fastened it to the wall studs with 1 1/4" staples.
They also did some rifle shooting and some fishing while they were here at the farm.
