Information on Winchester Knife!

Hello everyone! I am nwhs1969 and just joined AAPK a little while ago. I was searching the web for information on an older Winchester knife, having very little luck, and ran across this site. I was wondering if anyone here could help me out a little on this knife. I have read several of the posts and everyone seemed very knowledgeable about the replies to the posts so I thought I would run this knife by everyone to see if I gould get a little more information on it. I will tell you first what little facts I know about it. I have owned this knife myself for about 26 years. My Father owned it for several years before that. I inherited this knife along with several others when he passed away. I was wondering if anyone knows the age of this knife and if the knife is an original or perhaps a counterfeit. Does anyone know the value of this knife if it is real? Please post honest answers or answer to the best of your knowledge. You will not hurt my feelings if you tell me that this knife is junk, I just would like to find out more about it. I have always thought the knife looked too good to be an older original Winchester. I would estimate the knife to be at least 35 years old. I have not kept up with knives although I used to go with my Father years ago when he did a lot of trading and collecting of knives. I am going to try to post links to the pictures of this knife and hope that they work. I know it would be hard to give me much information on it without pictures. i'll go first. this only my opinion. stamp on tang looks cold stamped. not marked made in usa, is there a pattern # on other tang. i'm guessing replica from the 70s. still a good thing to get from your dad. that's where the value lies.

next the blade etch. it looks good and crisp except on the word mark. it does not look like 75 year old knife to me. looks like good reproduction.

Counterfeit Antique Cutlery page: 460, shows a Winchester Trade Mark stamp with no Made in the USA, and states it is an Authentic Stamp.
Now the Leg Knife on that page is fake, and it states why...
But the top of the stamping looks peculiar, on this knife along the top of the stamp throws me off.
Still digging through all my references, will post more if I can find anything.

Looked on E-Bay, here is a slightly different Winchester Leg Knife, Stamps look the same though. Of course couldn't vouch for this one on E-Bay as well.

Thanks for the info. jonet143. This was what I wanted, some opinions and or factual information on this knife. As I said in the first post, I think the knife looks too good to be one of the older Winchester original knives. I am having trouble finding much info. on it. There is no pattern number on the blade. (I was going to mention that in the first post, but forgot to add it in.) I also think you are probably right about this knife being from around the 70's. I don't know how long Dad had it before I got it, where he got it from, or how much he paid for it. Thanks again, nwhs1969

Thanks for the information SFC ADP. I didn't know what they called this knife. I thought it might be called a "boot" knife. I had not thought about it being called a "leg" knife. I am still researching some myself, and I will look on E-Bay to see what I can find. I have a few knife books, but they don't list a knife like this one. I can add only one fact.

I can see your dad opening this leg knife with a SMILE on his face.

I beat you now, you can see him smiling with it in his hand too.

He never traded it because he knows it was not for knife collector’s back then.
He just liked the LEG because he was a LEGMAN.

To me it is one of the best well-kept Leg’s I have seen. For her age. I do not have one but now I want one too. Because I too am a LEGMAN. TI"S CUTE.

P.S. Welcome to AAPK some day can you show us some more of what your dad had?

That is a modern fantasy fake - these were imported by the zillions in the 70's. Winchester never made a leg knife back in the day, as far as I know.
