The Camillus Cutlery Company was one of the oldest knife manufacturers in the United States with roots dating back to 1876. The company manufactured Camillus branded knives and was a prolific contractor for other knife brands up until its last days in 2007 when the company filed for bankruptcy.
Well, mystery knife arrived today. I'm just going to call it an unbranded, 3 blade, swelled center, whittler, pocket knife. I don't care if it was made in Pakistan, China or by a 5 year old girl in Indonesia. To me, and after all, that's all that matters, this IS a Camillus 72 variation. I can find no trace of any kind of tang stamp or manufacturer mark or country of origin. It measures 3 5/8" long, closed. It has nice weight to it. All the blades have great snap and no wobble. It looks NICE!

Got this Ulster 63 yesterday. There is no shield (by design) and no pattern # anywhere on this particular knife.
Another variation of a variation?
I'm still looking for the "63" with the pattern # on the opposite side of the main tang stamp.

Got these two variations yesterday. Another Camillus 1047 Scout knife with the "federal" style shield. Also another Ulster 63 with obvious blade use.

My newest addition is this "Red Deer", 3 blade, swelled center, 3 5/8" closed, pocket knife. Made in Pakistan. It fits the criteria to be considered a Camillus 72 variation. It is marked on the main blade only, "Red Deer" (pictured) and on the opposite side, "Pakistan", which is too light to be pictured.

Today's entry into the Camillus 72 variation category, another Camillus 1047 Scouting knife. My third Camillus 1047 with this style of shield. FINALLY!, it does look like the third time is the charm, as this is the nicest Camillus 1047 (with a federal shaped shield) that I've bought (so far). Nothing wrong with the handles at all. No shrinkage, no cracks, no chips and no pieces missing. The last picture shows all 3 knives in the order that I bought them. From left to right, you can see how the handles progressed from bad to better to nice (pictured one side only). I am very pleased with this one. Click the pictures to ENLARGE.

I just purchased this Kutmaster "VANADIUM STEEL", 3 blade, swelled center, whittler pocket knife. It appears that I won't have to clean it up at all. It looks to be in fantastic condition. Yet another Camillus 72 variation AND a variation of the Kutmaster variation. Hopefully it'll measure 3 5/8" closed. Looks like the tang stamp reads KUTMASTER (over) UTICA,N.Y. (over) U.S.A. (over) V. When I get it, I will post MY pictures in the appropriate location(s). These pictures are the seller's.

Today I picked up and am adding to this topic, this Kutmaster "VANADIUM STEEL", 3 blade, swelled center, whittler, pocket knife. It meets all the criteria to be considered a Camillus 72 variation. It DOES measure 3 5/8" long, closed.
***** VANADIUM *****
Per Wikipedia, "Vanadium is a chemical element with the symbol V and atomic number 23. It is a hard, silvery-grey, ductile, malleable transition metal. The elemental metal is rarely found in nature, but once isolated artificially, the formation of an oxide layer (passivation) somewhat stabilizes the free metal against further oxidation." (this is a VERY BRIEF description)

I bought this one about an hour ago. A Stanley SL6, 3 blade, swelled center, whittler, pocket knife. Another in the long line of Camillus 72 variations. Tang stamps are STANLEY (circled) on one side and SL6 (over) 440 S.S. (over) USA on the other side. When I receive it, if it needs a gentle cleaning, it will get one. I will post MY pictures in the appropriate place(s). These pictures are the seller's.

The SL-6 was made by Camillus of course. I have a Camillus from the final year(s) that has SL-6 stamped on the back of the main blade. You'll note it also has swapped secondary blades.

Jerry, I just posted pictures of the tang stamps on the previous page. Now it looks like I have to find the variation that you have posted. Oh such sweet torture.
