Case Classic Whittler 6355 - 00 stamped on bolsters??

This is where I always turn to when I run across a knife that I cannot figure out or have questions about. Once again I need your guys expertise concerning a couple knives I have recently purchased. I just bought two Case Classic Whittlers, pattern number 6355. Both of them have the long tail C stamped on the front bolster and the number "00". At first I thought I might have gotten some prototypes but none of the blades are stamped prototype. Can anyone tell me why these knives are stamped with "00" ? I have added a few pics. Looks like they tried to stamp too far out on the curve and missed with the last number or is it a year stamp? 2000

They were made for a certain dealer during the Case Classic days. You can find them with 0 00 000 0000 and a few with 00000. They were sold as having a "prototype" serial number. The knives are not prototypes. It was just a huge sales gimmick. Just treat the knife as you would a unserialized knife of the same release. Don't believe the sellers on Ebay or elsewhere , that would have you believe they are anything different.

Classic Case, thanks for the info! That makes sense to me because the blades are not stamped "prototype". As far as I am concerned that is what makes a proto a proto. Im sure there are fewer of these knives with "00" stamped on the bolster than just the regular production classics with nothing stamped on them but as my old saying goes "it is what it is" and nothing more. Thanks again!
