To commemorate National Handmade Day On April 7, I will be giving away one of my hand made decoys to some Lucky Duck. This is my modern made replica of an old pattern called a "wire and canvas" decoy. Instead of a decoy made from one solid piece of wood, or two pieces hollowed out, these were made in areas of the country that did not have large trees for decoy blocks. They were also lighter in weight than all wood decoys, so more could be carried for the same weight. Pictures below will show some of the steps in the construction. All the winner needs to do is clear out some space in the man or woman cave for this fine bird to have a place to roost.
This will be run like the monthly knife give away. Click here to get your number.
You will have until April 7 (6:00 P.M. Eastern) to pick a number. After this time, an official "Final List" of the entrants will be posted in this thread. The winner will be determined by the Illinois State Lottery evening pick three drawing on April 7. The Individual closest to the selected number without going over will win. The Illinois lottery results can be found on the following website:
You must be 18 years of age or older to play. The winner will be sent a PM after the drawing and will have 10 days to respond with your name and shipping address, if you do not respond within the allotted time the knife will be given to the next closest winner on the list without going over.
The 3 wood pieces cut out, marked and drilled.
Assembled with glue and screws.
Head carved, wires installed, ready to cover.
The canvas cover installed.
Everything primed, ready to paint.
ALL DONE! This is the bird the winner will receive. This canvasback drake is 14 inches tail to bill overall.
