AAPK price guide
I just learned that the AAPK price guide might be gone from our resource items for lack of interest or utilization. I find it very helpful in getting a ball park value of Case knives. I understand that these values change as to demand or age but I would like to see it remain a tool for our use. Please comment as to how you all feel about this subject. Send your comments to Bryan the person responsible for it's up-keep. Thanks

Re: AAPK price guide
Pretty much useless as far as I’m concerned. I can’t recall ever looking at the one here except out of curiosity when I first learned it existed. Any static price list is going to be out of date soon after it is published. Best source for current value, as has been said numerous times, is eBay sold listings. I “watch” a lot if eBay auctions of items of interest to me just to see the selling prices.
If you think a static price list is useful, buy a copy of one of the good reference books. Levine’s, Sargent’s, Parker’s, Price’s, Pfeiffer’s, all have price guides depending on the subject of the book. They can be useful however for a couple of things - as a reference for value of one pattern relative to another pattern, and “did that pattern exist at that time?” The prices listed however are out of date - when someone states “book value is XXXX”, as though that’s what it’s now worth, I just roll my eyes.

My opinion too. One of those things that as soon as it is published, it is obsolete. The current sold Ebay price would be a better indicator.Mumbleypeg wrote: ↑Sun Jan 29, 2023 7:23 pm Pretty much useless as far as I’m concerned. D) All of the above
The value of anything is the price agreed upon by both seller and buyer.

Re: AAPK price guide
Find a old price guide. it's better than what was on AAPK. Nowhere near what the price of a knife is today.

I agree with Ken. I think people have the idea that published books are
gospel but in the fluctuating economy we live in something like eBay
is your best best. I have used published books to determine relative
pricing and what models were made.

Re: AAPK price guide
So you guys are recommending ebay as a go-to value guide..are you referring to this platform that most of you have chew up and spat out more time than I care to count...."can't believe that knife sold for that "..."There's a fool born every day"..."seen something in that one I didn't see. " that one sold for $100.00 over high book"....

Re: AAPK price guide
You don’t use every ebay sale. Go to eBay advanced search. Set it to limit your search to sold listings only. Type in the item you’re looking for. For example Case Tested 6254, or CASE XX 6318, etc. Submit the search.
When it responds there may be one, or a dozen or more completed sales shown. Usually several. Scroll through them, eliminate any that do not match your criteria (the search occasionally fetches items you didn’t want because the seller description is wrong). Then you can see the high, low, and other sales, date of sale, etc. If you want more detail you can drill down to the complete original listing to see the seller’s pictures (to compare condition, etc).
In other words recent data, ability to see what was sold, when it sold, prices paid. The main limitation is that for very rare items there may not have been any sales recent enough to remain in eBay’s system. In that case you may have to resort to an out-of-date price guide (one if those books referenced previously).

No apology needed. I didn’t know how to do it either, until I did.
With a little practice you can do it about as quickly as accessing a list and looking up the item. And it works pretty reliably for all brands (and more than just knives).
It’s amazing how much stuff gets sold on eBay. I’m “watching” a knife auction now that started for a minimum 99¢ bid - it’s now up to $438, with a couple of days left.
