Penny knives

Post by Knife-nut1970 »

100+ years between these two. Both made in the same area of Austria where they have been made for 500 years.

The older one I haven't been able to nail down the particular maker. At one time there was 16 makers of these knives in the Trattenbach area of Austria. Now there is only one maker left there. The newer one was made for a company called Swiss Advance.

This is the maker that is left.

Are these called "penny knives"?
If so, why?

They sold for a penny in the 1700s. https://www.revolvy.com/page/Penny-knife
