Re: Case XX Wharnrat
Just spotted this on eBay ... just think of the Ratcliffe on steriods that I could make - LOL! I think if Edward Scissorhands carried a pocket knife, this would have to be it ...

Re: Case XX Wharnrat
I sent John a Schrade Walden 787 Improved Muskrat for his Ratcliff mod. It turned out really nice and I'm very pleased with it. John did a really good job. He suggested calling it the "Schratcliff" and I'm in agreement. The 787 really is a Improved Muskrat now.

David, I really like that one. You have a prize there. And yes John does great work. And Schratcliff should be trade marked. Proud for you on a great knife.

Re: Case XX Wharnrat
David - glad you like your ... SCHRATCLIFFE !!
That was a fun project ... wasn't sure if the swedge grind was going to be a problem, but it wasn't after all. That particular Schrade Walden muskrat is interesting in that the nail nicks are in different positions on each blade - the one I modded worked out perfect. It also has awesome snap on both blades - really nice knife. Here's the before and after ...

I love this idea guys! I am going to try it on a old Richards Sheffield 1 Blade Jack i picked up yesterday at the Yorkton Gun & Collectibles show. It has great snap and tartan pattern celluloid covers. Someone ground the tip pointed, wonder what they were thinking..
Other than that she is in really good condition, even has the original bail still attached. Not bent up or anything. Blade still has ton of life left. It will make a great edc when i'm done...
Wish me luck that i don't bugger up anything to bad...

Hey Willy - just take your time - its pretty easy to simply use a file to reprofile a blade ... where some folks get into trouble is using power sanders/grinders - have to be sure you work very slowly & don't take too much off. Post some pics when you're done ... good luckWillyCamaro wrote:I love this idea guys! Re: Case XX Wharnrat
Hi Lansky1! Thank you for the advice...
I'm sitting here holding the knife...i don't think it will work. The nail nick is way forward on end. Here i'll take a pic with my laptop photo...just don't mind my grubby looks...I have a pile of health issues so shaving is the least of my concerns. And am trying to grow half a respectable beard. Like you posted earlier, the nail nick has to be in the right place...

Hey Willy,
Here's an idea - you could regrind that blade into a tapered lambsfoot Brittish style blade. I did that once on a trapper blade with the nail nick too far forward to do a wharncliffe. Would make it very unique & useful ...

Re: Case XX Wharnrat
Hot off the press - I'm taking a liking to the acrylic Corelon that Case makes - has a surprisingly nice texture (not slippery) and makes for a thin feeling knife. This one was a bit of a rehab project - epoxy all over the shield and cover (shield must have been reglued) & had some company name embossed on the blade ...easy to remove with a little elbow grease. This one has outstanding snap on both blades - to me, that's the most endearing feature of the late model Case muskrats is way above average snap can be counted on...

Re: Case XX Wharnrat
Found a fairly uncommon muskrat - it's a Case Collectors Club edition, tang stamped 9/11. Here's the latest Ratcliffe in the rat pack --->

Re: Case XX Wharnrat
30 years from now knife collectors are going to be scratching their heads trying to figure out what this pattern is and who made it.
But having said that, I like it.
Pocket, fixed, machete, axe, it's all good!
