ADDITIONAL INFO: The Western 639 was a popular pattern for Western. In Harvey Platts book, “The Knife Makers Who Went West,” he reprints the 1968 Western catalog. On page 181 of his book, it shows the #639 with Delrin handles. I didn’t see anything with Delrin handles on it until the 1968 catalog. I would date this knife circa, 1968 – 1976. It was in 1976 when Western started using a letter code to date their blades. This knife was made prior to the alphabetical date code that began in 1977.
