ADDITIONAL INFO: The L48ABG is a variation of Western’ s L48 pattern. In the 1958 Western catalog, reprinted in Harvey Platts book, “The Knife Makers Who with West,” they say the L48 is Western’s most popular blade pattern. They first see this pattern listed in the 1950s catalog reprint. The L48 means that it has a leather handle. All of the 48 patterns seem to have a saber ground blade in them.
The BG at the end of the suffix stands for the fuller that is in this knife the BG represents the fuller. I repaired this knife with Sambar stag handles that I dyed myself using a mixture of dyes. I was pleased with the mottled look I got from this new dye in new method. I held the knife together with two large mosaic pins. I also made the sheath it’s from six-ounce leather. It is stamped with my logo.
