ADDITIONAL INFO: According to Goins Encyclopedia of Cutlery Markings, Brown Bros. was a trademark use prior to 1902 by Union Cutlery. Bernard Levine, in LG4 dates it circa 1890 to 1902. The knives were made in Germany and in the USA and at that point the company was a wholesale and important company. It was later purchased Tidioute Cutlery Company and moved to Tidioute PA in 1902. In 1909 it became Union Cutlery Company. This is the company that Became what we know today as Kabar. Levine also rates the Brown Bros. as highly collectible. From the shape of the pattern with the long, threaded bolsters and the fluted mother-of-pearl handles, I would think it’s likely the knife was made in Germany and not in the U.S., but I could be mistaken. A very nice knife that it one time was no doubt somebody’s pride and joy in their Sunday-Go-to-Meeting knife!
