Please Note: Orvet Customs is not taking orders at this time:

I am taking a vacation for a couple weeks. God willing I will be at the Oregon Knife Show (OKCA) April 12-14. If I have time I will open the store next week, if not it may even be the end of the month after my cataract surgery. Thank you all, Dale

ADDITIONAL INFO: Consulting Harvey Platts book “The Knife Makers Who Went West” it appears the Black Beauty series first appeared about 1960 and was introduced with six patterns. The F 39 was the largest Black Beauty knife followed by (in decreasing size) F66, F40, F48A, F48B and the F28, the small fish and game knife. It also came in a F14 hatchet, and in the F3914 set; the F14 hatchet with the F39.

The Black Beauty series seems to be an iconic Western design, one that is still very popular today. I have seen badly abused Black Beauty knives bring prices on eBay that surprised me!

Besides being an iconic Western design the Black Beauty has something even better going for it, the Western blade steel! One of the reasons Western knives are so sought after is they are some of the best carbon steel ever made. They take an incredible edge and all did extremely well. I have no doubt that this knife with minimal care and a little oiling will last two or three more lifetimes!

Full disclosure: I believe the sheath to be the original sheath for this knife and some of the stitching had been rather crudely replaced between the third and fourth rivets. I removed the group replacement and hand sewed the new stitching. I believe the replacement stitching to be far stronger than even the remaining original stitching. It should enhance not detract from the performance of the sheath.
