ADDITIONAL INFO:   I love the old Western knives and I think their carbon steel is some of the finest carbon steel ever used in knives. To me they are worth the time and effort it takes to restore them and make them usable again. This one had the original stacked leather handle that had rotted from years of exposure to moisture. I removed the original handle, cleaned the tang, removed the rust, replaced the handle with Sambar stag and used epoxy to seal the back of the stag to prevent moisture from getting inside between the handles and the tang. I did not remove every ding from the knife for this knife will make an outstanding sportsman’s knife. Whether hunting, camping or fishing, or all three; this knife has a lifetime of service still left in it!

The L48B listed in the reprint 1968 catalog in Harvey Platts book, “The Knife Makers Who Went West.” This L48B has a flat ground blade. The earlier L48B were had a saber ground blade, much heavier, stronger and thicker but the flat ground blade is easier to keep sharp and use for precision cutting applications.

I have priced this knife lower than I normally do because there is a scratch on the blade beneath my etch on the mark side. It’s not deep enough to hurt anything but it’s not pretty, therefore I am selling it at a reduced price.

 When shipping by first class in padded envelopes I always wrap additional padding around the knife; it will be well padded.
