ADDITIONAL INFO:     The 1972 Camillus catalog lists the handle material as “grain white handles.” I’m not sure exactly what that was and in my discussions with Tom Williams, the official historian for Camillus Cutlery, he told me that he wasn’t sure which material it was Camillus used for the handles of the #66 because they had used a number of them. It is apparent from comparing these handles to Delrin handles that the Delrin handles are much harder than these.

Also in a 2010 phone conversation with Tom Williams, he shared with me a back story about the Camillus #66 Premium Stock Knife. –The Camillus #66 Premium Stock Knife played an important role in the 1979 Francis Ford Coppola movie called the “Black Stallion.” The boy, Alec, is given a #66 Camillus by his father which he later uses to cut rope’s that has entangled the stallion they had escaped from a sinking ship. The pocketknife appeared in the movie enough that the early 1980s when Francis Ford Coppola’s production company began to plan the shooting of the sequel, they called Camillus to order some knives just like the ones that were used in the “Black Stallion” movie.

They talked to my friend Tom Williams at Camillus and asked to buy some #66 Camillus knives to use while they shot “The Black Stallion Returns,” the sequel to the original “Black Stallion” movie. Tom explained to them that the knife was no longer in production but he would see if he could find some. Tom said he went out into the factory and dug around in some parts bins and found enough parts to make several #66 Premium Stock Knives. He had the knives assembled, sharpened and ready for the filming of the movie. He then sent the knives to the production company with the complements of Camillus Cutlery Company.

And now you know a little bit of interesting history behind the Camillus #66 Premium Stock Knife.
