ADDITIONAL INFO: I have been a fan of the D.W.O. since it first came out in 1985. I'm not sure the dating on this particular knife, it has the DWO brochure explaining the story of Delley Wade Officer and that brochure dated 1985. It also has the Kershaw guarantee in the box with the dates on the brochure of 8/87. Unless someone but the paper in the wrong box, the knife was likely not produced before mid 1987. The unusual thing about this particular knife is it does have the spanner type screws for the pivot. As best my memory serves me, it was about 1989 when Kershaw stopped using the spanner type screw and changed to a slotted screw. Based on that I would estimate that this knife was made between the latter part of 1987 and the end of 1989.
The really unusual thing that I noted about this knife is that it is an advertising knife for CUMMINS. Cummins is a company Fortune 500 company headquartered in Indiana that designs, manufactures and distributes diesel engines. Because of the distances involved on the West Coast most everything moves by truck and Cummins and Freightliner are names you see almost everywhere, related to diesel trucks and diesel engines. A Kershaw advertising knife is not unusual. EBay is jammed with hundreds of Snap-On ad knives made by Kershaw, however this is the only ad knife I have seen that was the DWO! This is the only advertising version of a DWO that I have seen. There must surely be others but they are not common. In addition to being out of the ordinary this knife as close to mint condition as I have seen one of these. The box has some water stains it looks like, and some of the surface gloss came off; but it did its job and protected the knife.
An outstanding collectible from the late 1980s in a great addition for the collector!
