Where Are All The Remington Knife Collectors?

The Remington Corporation and the knives that they built have influenced the U.S. cutlery industry more than nearly any other manufacturer. From the time America was settled, to the end of WWI, American knife companies struggled to compete with Britain and German imports, but events that occurred during and after the First World War led to a great change in this phenomenon. Unprecedented opportunities arose, and Remington stepped up to seize the moment. In the process, they created some of today's most prized collectables. In an ironic twist, the next World War played the greatest role in ending the company’s domination of the industry.

espn, your R683 Gunstock knife is a really nice example! The tang stamps are nice and bright and the handles are especially pretty.

Let's see if this post wakes up ol' Rocky :)

Here is a R1128 Bullet knife. Many thanks to Harold stockman who was my second set of eyes and ears in locating this knife.

If you look really close and use some imagination you can see a very faint blade etch.

Thanks for looking.

Can anybody tell me what the S stamp means on my knife? It's the only one I have that has it and I can't find any info on it.
Thanks Keith

I figured it was an easy answer. Stainless steel? That's why I felt dumb. Maybe it is rare? Non of my others have that stamp is what prompted the question.

Stainless it is. Kind of rare but they are out there. Most I have seen had the high model numbers like R9xxx like yours. I think your blade is swapped from a different knife. Handle code should be 5 not 3 and your small blade looks like high carbon steel and not stainless. Some stainless models had a Remington Stainless etch on the blade instead of "Trade Mark".

I had the privilege to handle an absolutely mint Remington surveyor knife at the OKCA show in April in Eugene Oregon. I am lucky to have a friend that has one of the best Remington collections on earth and he lets me handle a few of the rare ones.
