All About Pocket Knives

I have been a casual collector for many years, but have recently started a new (for me ) side collection of Boy Scout knives. I am collecting the official, camp type knife with can opener, bottle opener/screwdriver, awl, and spear point main blade. I have picked up about a dozen variations so far. Anybody have any particular insight or info that might be useful? Where can I get a complete listing of the various manufacturers and some guidelines for approximate values?

Welcome aboard. You might check Levines Guide #4. Pages 274-283. Do not pay to much attention to the prices they are a guideline. With a few exceptions they have came down in recent years.

Levines guide; if you dont have it will run ya about $75 for the 4th addition on Ebay you can find "Blades Guide to KNIVES & Their Value" for about $10 bucks has a very nice section about boyscout knives also.

I would start with the book, "Official Scout Blades", by Ed Holbrook. I have heard alot of good things about it.

I believe the KnifeWorld site is offering them for $25 each.

Thanks guys for the information. It's great to be able to tap in to so much useful advice. I really do appreciate it. Only problem is, I may have to sell my knives to pay for the books on knives!!!!

Any of you guys got a picture of a Boy Scout knife your're particularly proud of. If so, let's see it.

here is a cattaraugus c2589 whitt-l-kraft. "be prepared" shield. beautiful bone handles. spear, punch and coping blades.

the other(my favorite) is an imperial given to me by my dad around 1961.

I like that one your Dad gave ya never seen one like that before. Just picked this Ulster up, I opened her up before I put any oil on her the spring exploded, I almost cried.

I have alot of camp knives but only 2 ...scratch that 1 Scout Knife.

My heart goes out to you on that one Lenny. Any chance you can salvage the knife by replacing the springs? Looks like rest of the knife is in exceptional condition for the age.

Now that I have learned how to post a photo, I thought I'd share a few frome my budding collection with anyone who might be interested. I personally never knew there were so many variations of the old Boy Scout knife.



These three are by Ulster.

This one is a Hammer Brand nearly identical to one of the Ulster knives in the previous post.
(except the can opener blade tip isn't broken on this one )

Here's a PAL. They bought the Remington tools and parts in 1940 and made knives 'till 1950 I think.

I don't have anything to stack up to those, but here are a few more from my collection.

The three in the second picture are all by Imperial.

I love old scout knives. Here's an old Remington Scout display box, with my better Remington scouts.

Here is a few more. Mostly Remingtons, a few Keen Kutters, and a rare New York knife Co. that needs a main blade.(original blade with etch is snapped off halfway.)

Yikes those are great. I have been trying to get one of those stars and stripes Remingtons for some time now. Great collection
