All About Pocket Knives

Some of you folks know this right away. For those that do not, it is a knife cleaner I do believe.
The pads in this one are felt, shown in one of the images.
This one is pretty much all cast iron, those little screw caps are brass grease cups for the gears. You can also adjust the tenison on the pads by the knob on the outside. This one weights approximately 35 pounds.
First one I have ever seen that was not Victorian or at least English made.

I found an old straight razor with the stamp ERNST KOPPEN Germany and an old Tea cookie tin that had ERNST KOPPEN New Jersey, but no history other than that. Nothing in any of my cutlery books or catalogs.


I have an old wooden English made cleaner I will get on here one day that has brass bushings for pads and is still filled with the grit. I got the history on it though. They are more common, it was used back in the day here in East 10 E C.

Thanks Orvet...........I believe I saw LT's awhile back, IIRC his is a Kent. I looked but could not find it. Takes forever for the photos to download sometimes
The wooden one I have is a "Follow & Bates".
The way I understand; Hotels, resorts, places with large dinning areas had these because back then the steel had so much carbon it them, the knives would start rusting over night. These things cleaned and polished them up real fast.
