All About Pocket Knives

I would like get a book on knife repair. This might be something that I would pursue as a hobby. I need basic info and tools required. I have checked books but nothing jumps out at me, maybe some of the experts here have some good advise. I am a woodworker and have the tools for that. THANKS

try to find a reasonable copy of Ben Kelly's "the guide to pocket knife repair" it will tell you everything.

Amazon has some copies of mentioned book: 'The Complete Book of Pocketknife Repair', A cutlers manual by Ben Kelley Jr.

Seems like they are out of print because I saw an Antique Outfit that had em for $300 plus but I think they are still available for less than $50 on Amazon. Good Luck

Just checked.................Amazon has 4 or 5 copies from $79 to $171.

I think I will lock up my copy.

There is another book:
KNIFE REPAIR & RESTORATION, by Adrian Harris.

My copy is a reprint from 2004.
I did a Google search & found some copies, but am not sure if they are in the US or somewhere else. They seem to be bringing about $50 a copy for a 70-page book. The info is much like Kelley’s book, but I think I prefer Kelley’s book………if you can find one. The book by Harris is less expensive if these links are any indicator.

If I needed another I would watch ebay & check with out-of-print book services.

last I looked mooremaker was selling the Harris books for $25 might check thier webpage

A few months ago I bought Ben Kelly's book at Centaur Forge. It was only about $12.00 plus shipping. I don't know if they have any more.

Does anyone know of a really good person who does knife repair & restoration in North Alabama? I need some general clean up on some & a few need handles. Some claim they can but, Some can & do it right!

I don't know about Alabama, but we have some fine knife mechanics on this forum, such as Muskrat Man and Orvet. There are many others, too many to mention here. It would be worth your while to send them out of state for some pimpin'.

I have had work done by both of these gentlemen and was very pleased with the work each of them did. I would gladly recomend either one of them.

It will be a little while before I can work on any knives, due to my recent hand surgery.
However, I am still taking knives in for repair later this summer, after my hand has healed.
I know Kaleb was having trouble with his hand, but I think he is working taking in repairs currently.
If you need it done before the end of the summer, you might shoot Kaleb an e-mail or PM.

thanks for the words folks. I am taking work on. I'm not letting my hand slow me down or affect my work. I'm doing more work now than ever. HaHa

I have to wait until it has healed from the surgery until I can do much.

BTW, This thread started out with Papa looking for a book on knife repair.
I have one copy left of Adrian Harris' book "Knife Repair & Restoration" if anyone is still looking or one.
