The New Schrade USA Made Automatic Knife

I finally got my newly released USA made Schrade automatic. I’ve been very curious about this knife ever since I read about it in the AKA Newsletter and saw some early prototype pictures on the knife forums. From my standpoint, it meets all my expectations and more. It’s a high-quality knife that feels solid and looks gorgeous with the red pick bone scales. It opens with authority and locks up without any movement - rock solid! The knife has a lot of similarities to the old Aerial knives and the “A.C. MFG. Co.” stamped knives produced by the Olsen Knife Co. The contour of the new Schrade is similar to these older knives and it also has a release knob mechanism. Fit and finish is awesome and as far as I can see there’s nothing I would complain about since this knife is a limited prototype version. The size is 3 3/4” closed so it brings it right up the alley with the larger Schrade double folders. This is a perfect size for a user. As a matter of fact, this knife screams “use me please”! But not this puppy, it will go right back to the collection dresser. I sure hope that we will see more versions of this knife in the near future. If you’re looking for a perfect EDC this is it.

If I'm not mistaken, I think the production versions will have a textured thumb lever as well.

Everytime I looked at that knife I thought it sure looked like a 73 pattern GEC. ::doh::

I have not visited this forum in a while, but I am a bit confused. Schrade went out out of business several years back, and now there are knives being made overseas with the Schrade name on them, but made by another company. I do not consider them Schrade knives. How is this different? It looks like a nice knife, just not a true Schrade.

Hey Mike, it's just another example of a knifemaker producing knives under an old, established name. Winchester, Remington, Russell, Primble, Robeson are all examples. Probably a bunch more I can't think of. I'd rather see GEC making Schrades than Taylor!
