All About Pocket Knives

Hi All,

I'm new to this knife forum and this is my first post. I've been colleting knives off and on from the age of 10....wow that was a long time ago. Today I only collect Buck knive's.

Hello JB;
You seem to have it together regarding Buck. I have a small multi purpose 116, that in itself is no big deal. It does however have an anomaly regarding the tang stamp. It has the 1968 and later stamp that reads BUCK over 116 over USA. The difference is you read it like the 1950's bucks with the blade pointing up as in the picture. Any idea as to approx time of manufacture. Many thanks to you or anyone who can supply an answer.

here is some information for you. This is a quote from the "Blades Guide To Knives and Their Values" The artical (Buck Fixed Blade Knives) was written by the late Vern Taylor with updates by Joe Houser and Larry Oden
In about 1967, Buck began to market knives in Canada. Consequently, the blade stamping was changed to BUCK/U.S.A. The stamping remained in use until about 1971, when Buck began to stamp a model number on the knives in a three-line arrangement: BUCK/MODEL#/U.S.A. Initially, the stamp was read with the knife pointed down (inverted) but, sometime around 1972, the stamping orientation was changed to be read with the knife pointed up.

Bit embarrassing when you have the info setting 24" away from your right elbow and don't have enough sense to look at it. 1973 till the ID marks started in the 80's. Thank you,

I'm not an expert on dating knives ....But, you may be able to narrow the year of your knife by dating the sheath
