All About Pocket Knives

Bought this, and this is what I had to look at. I drew the conclusion it was correct and in decent shape. Not many bids but it wasn't described or titled well, and the pics were kinda shoddy. Did I read the knife correctly? Would like to hear your thoughts

its surely a decent old straightline rem. jack knife, i was going to bid on it but i couldnt tell if the handles were bone or some kind of rough black type material. i asked a few days ago, but never got a answer. the old straight lines tend to be a cheaper made knife. But it is a good looking old knife.

So then, you are the one who outbid me by $1.00. I thought I was going to get a bargain on that knife. It'll make a nice knife after a bit of polishing. The bolsters appear to be tarnished a tad. It's a good knife, glad you got it.

Sorry RC, didn't know you were bidding on it or else I would have backed off. Did I do good on it? I wasn't sure what it was worth but I liked it, and figured any etched remington was worth what I paid

Thats ok, no problem. I don't expect to win every knife I bid on. I'd say you got the knife for less than half of its fair market value.

Well, it arrived but I have been slacking on my photography, here it is. pretty nice, a bit of tarnish on the bolsters and lots of specking near the spine on the clip and pen blade, looks like it may have been in with a gasser. Etched pattern number, nice strong blade etch and tang stamps, never sharpened. Strong snap with half stops.

I really like to see Remingtons with inked on pattern numbers. That almost guarentees they have saw no use. I think it will clean up nicely. Very good knife to put away.

RC, are the straight line Remingtons by Camillus?
MM, some of the rough blacks were celluloid, so check carefully that the gassing isn't coming from the handles themselves.
(Sheesh what a pessimist I am!)
For all that, a nice looking knife.

es they are cell, thouh I don't think they are the ones doing the gassing, they show no signs of shrinkage or deterioration. I might trade it off one day, just trying to decide if i should carefully clean off the spots or leave them be
