All About Pocket Knives

I'm familiar with the Shrade "Old Timer", knives and used to carry those when I was younger. I don't really know to much about this pretty stockman with jigged bone scales. I believe it was made in the 1980's and looks like it was made in Sheffield, England. Can anyone give me anymore information on it. Really a nice knife, with nickel silver bolsters, high carbon steel blades with great snap and beautiful jigged bone scales.

I have one of those in my collection as well, really like the jigged bone on these Stockmans, there is more info on the link attached, there were several designs made back in the early 80's when Schrade owned the Wostenholm name for about 4 years or so, the blades were made in England and assembled in the USA, Camillus even assembled some of the patterns.

I don't know a whole lot about them.But I did have one just like that one and gifted it to a friend that collects Schrade.I thought it was a very nice knife,good fit and finish with a snap that would take a finger off

The Schrade IXL Wostenholm partnership produced some hearty well made knives. I've never seen any complaints. I just have one, a canoe with stag handles.

The lock backs were made by Camillus, the slipjoints were made by Schrade.

They were assembled without handles in the US, shipped to England where they were Hallmarked, handled & finished.

To the best of my knowledge, none of the series had Sheffield made blades.

I don't collect Schrade's so I had never heard of them.......Wow..those are super nice!!

Perhapes this will explain a bit about the IXL period regarding Schrade. It was if memory serves about 3 years from about 79 . The English were very impressed with there new american bosses and when they arrived to inspect the factory in England the workers were playing english football in the factory. The marriage did not last long . However some of the knives were I feel among the best made by Schrade. I am including some lousy pictures of most of those produced. the Schrimshaw nauticals unlike most of the Schrade scrims were done on bone by hand ( not delrin and heat printed. ) I am also including an article from 1981. Also a couple of pics of a large (like an LB 7 ) lockback which is rather rare only because they were a bit more expensive and did not sell well also the handles ( had no rivits ) were glued on and the glue apparently had not been perfected and the handles would fall off. I am posting two of these one is etched with a patent applied for etch the other one is an issue for the Calgary stampede ( as usual I am in a hurry and am going by memory. ) It was one of the few times this model was sold since as I said they did not go over that well. Thanks for the pics LT! I would have to say that the one bone stockman I have is really a well made and beautiful knife. I like the size of it and the way it fits in my hand. The blades have some really hard snap as well. Even though my knife indicates Sheffield on the tang, weren't the blades English made?

I own one of theese Schrade i xl 1787 wostenholm knifes 3 blade,, like in the first picture, serial # 1942. My father bought it NEW one day at work at a gm plant he worked at in missouri. It's rough now which I'am saddened to see it this way,, the one in picture above is so beautiful. I'am curious what one like this is worth? doe's anyone know a place that restore's theese? biggest problem is handle on one side is broken in a couple place's, Thank's for any info I appreciate it . Kinda hoping to get it like new again dad would be proud if he were still alive.

to the site , cdaveinmo. ......They're are several members who could do the job for you.....here are a few that I know of .. Muskrat Man , Orvet and Elvis...all 3 of these Feller's do a fine job!! .....as for value..the best thing that I have found is ebay...try and find one exactly like it and see what it goes or went for.
