All About Pocket Knives

hi all. just wanted to say a quick hello. i am 37yrs old and have been making pocket knives at taylors eye-witness in sheffield for 18 years. great to see so many more enthusiasts

I've heard about Eye Witness, but Taylor..?
When I hear "Eye Witness" I think of kitchen cutlery... I don't think I've ever seen an Eye Witness pocket knife for sale in Norway and that's a shame really. We're practically neighbours..!

taylors eye witness was founded by john taylor in 1838 and the eye witness trade mark was taken from shakespeares line in henry iv "no eye hath seen better" im surprised you have not heard of our pen and pocket knives as they are sold worldwide, mainly australia. AKC

I thought it was time to get my eyes checked, but when I google "Eye Witness" on Norwegian pages I get no relevant hits. So I guess they are simply not available for sale here...

This one was quite special. “Twin Blade Clip and Castrator
A 2 blade stockman's knife as supplied to the Jackaroos in the outback of Australia.”

Not a pattern I see very often. Sort of a Barlow with a spey blade… Nice.
I also like the wooden handled line.

What kind of steel are you using?
Any personal favorites you feel like revealing..? Which knives do you make?

thanks. the knife you showed was a production folder. i mainly make m.o.p. stag and various horn handled knives, such as these:G]we use 420h steel to 56hrc for blades and 420h to 47 hrc for springs

Russell, welcome! I myself just joined this forum about a week ago. I saw the interview on u tube of you making the knife. It was very informative. If I could only have one eye witness knife which would you recommend? Which is your favorite? Where would be the best place to order one? Hope this isn't too many questions. Thanks

hi, if i had to choose just one it would be the m.o.p. folder with filework that i made on the video. my knives are sold at http://www.premiercutlery.co.uk although for the m.o.p. ones you may have to email them has they are usually made to order. there is a email address at this site with prices, how to order etc. thanks for your interest

What steel is used in the pocket knife range?

Beautiful work! I had no idea that anyone was making knives like that anymore. I did notice that ultra modern, high speed, low drag vice you were using. I can't help noticing stuff like that.

sorry for the delay in answering, the steel used is 420h
blade to 57hrc and spring to 47 hrc

Russell, I can't welcome you to AAPK because you've been here longer than I.
I'm impressed, however, that a youngster such as yourself is turning out quality knives in a manufacturing facility, as opposed to a custom shop, although I suppose you might be working in a custom shop at Taylor's.

Beautiful knives. Makes a case for one to collect just Taylor barlows.
