All About Pocket Knives

I have 21 case knives and telling them apart and getting the approx value is seeming to be tricky. For example, according to this site the dots under the Case XX started in 1970...I have a 6265 SAB that has no dots but according to your information there was no 6265 SAB before 1970. Please help.

if you could post a picture of the knife and tang stamp we could be more precise but case did make the 6265 pattern since before 1920. the following might help. case xx usa 1965-69, only case xx with no usa 1940-65, and case tested xx 1920-40. these should help you.

feature on this site. And hes right, it only posts knives from like 70-87.

But there are earlier ones that arent listed here.

Hi first timer, just bought a case 6262sab and hard to date case site says 1965 to 1969 with tang stamp but then says hunting knives are 1965 to1980.is this considered hunting ? Tang stamp is case xx with USA under it and under USA are 2 dots 1 under the s and one under the left leg of the a . Thanks Phil

Hello to all...not sure if I should start a new thread or not, but here goes:
I would appreciate a little insight on this knife...first, is it a counterfit? and if it's real, when was it made, how long, etc. No dots, and appears to be real MOP. Also, is the Oval shield upside down?

The knife is a real Case folding hunter, but it has been rehandled.

Thanks! He/she did a nice job, if you're into MOP..At least it's not a knock-off. Can you best guess the date?

I may have recommended this to you before but you can easily determine dates of Case pocket knives. The charts for that can be found by clicking on Research in the header up there ^^ at the top of this page. Then scroll down to the header saying W.R. Case & Sons Pocket Knife Age Determination. Click on that, then compare the stamp on your knife to the charts.

Or a more comprehensive chart can be found on the Case web site https://www.casecollectorsclub.com/college/tang-stamps/ Note that on some patterns it is difficult or impossible to see all the stamp (the dots). In those cases you’ll have to be satisfied with an educated guess or approximation based on the visible part of the stamp.

I was able to date it from 1927 - 1945, but no closer. With all the work done on it, would it be safe to say its collector value is gone?

Don’t know how you came up with those dates. From what I can see in your pictures it’s 1965 (CASE XX over U.S.A. Stamp) at the earliest. Somebody paid someone to have the work done. The question is, were the original covers damaged in some way, or did they just want something different? Value as an authentic original knife is ruined, but people have all kinds of tastes so someone may think it’s wonderful.
