Does anyone know when/why Remington etched pattern numbers on some knives and stamped them on others? Just got this R100A with partial original etch on blade and etched pattern numbers on tang. I've got a picture of the front if anyone's interested. Thanks.

I'd say 1936-1940 for the inked on pattern numbers. Around '36 was when Dupont entered the picture and began all kinds of cutbacks. It was much cheaper to ink on the pattern rather than stamp. Of course I'd like to see the front of the knife. I've got a R100A that has an etch of "Remington Standard Dollar Knife".

Thanks for your help.

Here's the front picture, sorry its not a very good one, got the wrong angle so the etch doesnt show well and I got a dark reflection in the blades. Etch looks like it says "Remington steel", or maybe "Stainless steel", not sure first word is illegible.
