All About Pocket Knives

I found this display full of knives at a gun-knife show today. After searching all the tables for vintage Remingtons with no luck, I ran across this display. I normally don't buy other brands of displays but this one looked pretty nice. It was near closing time and the dealer cut me a little slack in the price. All the knices appear mint with a main blade etch. The original prices per knife range from $2.99 to $3.99.

We have a recent topic her on storing knives with the blades in partially open positions. Have the knives been stored in the display? Do you find the springs to be affected?

Do you know what year they are from?..................and looks like a great test of how well they held up half opened!

I have a couple Imperial displays that I bought empty. It is fun trying to find the proper knives to fill them with. Of course, it helps to find them when you have a good knife history source like Larry's site.

As best I can tell the knives have been attached to the display board since it left the factory. They are wired on. I checked each end of the wire where it was twisted and none seem to have been disturbed. I haven't removed any knives to check the backspring action yet. I'd guess these are from the early to mid 70's. You might be able to zoom the picture to get the pattern numbers, if not I can post them if anyones interested. I actually got this display for about 1/2 of what I would expect to pay for a mint condition Remington pen or sleeveboard knife.

Hey - Mr. Remington Collector - Thanks for your interesting post. Like Froggy says - a recent thread on displaying knives in the partially open position discusses the pros and cons - mainly cons - of doing that. Pen & Toothpick also notes that your find - knives displayed partially open for 30 years - would give some definitive answers to whether such a practice harms the backspring. If you have time, please review that previous thread - it's right close to yours. And, if you can test the backspring and snap on one of those knives please give us a post and let us know what you find. Cliff

Thought you might want to see these users I salvaged when I was a kid. I have no idea where I got them. Been in a junk box for years.

The Diamond Edge looks to be the same knife as the one on the far left of your display. The Imperial has a very similar blade to the second one from the right.

Both knifes are marked IMPERIAL PROV RI USA on the master blade. They are 3 5/16 " closed.
