All About Pocket Knives

Was wonderin' if this Case whittler seems on the "up and up" to you folks? No bids yet, only 8 hours left? I've seen the same pattern sell at a much higher price, just got me wonderin' why nobody's bidding...

looks good to me. I think the higher starting price scares people off since it's "just a dotted knife"

ah! Thanks MM! I kinda' like those dotted knives, but see that the Big Whittler 6380 (what I really want) sells for well over a $100.00! That's why I was wonderin' about this knife. I checked the values listings on the website here and I think it said a 1975 6308 Case was estimated at about $77.00. I'll keep watchin' the auction then, Thanks Again!

Don, I like any of the older case knives even if they're dotted. As long as they are mint or near mint that's all I'm concerned about. The new case knives just don't appeal to me like the older ones. Using my phone to send this message since I'm up north on the rifle river attempting to catch fish.

Thanks Jim Great to hear from ya' . Yeah, I have been wanting to see what an older Case was like and really would like to get a 6380 Big Whittler, but the 6308 was much cheaper. I did win it by the way and look forward to receiving it.

I have a few 6308s, Don. That one looks authentic, and in as near a mint condition as you are going to get.

Don, I got a collection of dotted and a couple of USA 83's, 80's, 08's, and muskrats.most are bone and some are delrin. They are just well made, good looking knives. I was fortunate when I got them off Ebay from paladin. Couldn't get them bass to bite my plugs, so I came back and got crawlers. You could drop a plug right on their nose and they wouldn't take it.

Sorry to hear them bass weren't bitin' Jim But as they say, "A bad day of fishin' is better than a good day at work!" ...BTW, Paladin has a real nice lookin' 6380 Big Whittler on Ebay right now, I keep gettin' outbid, but I will keep tryin'!

Paladin, I plan to do just that...bid,bid,bid!!! That is one nice lookin' whittler! I am new to all this, and am all over the place it seems with buying different brands, but I am at least stickin' to the whittler style patterns. I hope you will be offering more 6380's in the future. Or maybe some Case Classics Whittlers.

p.s. I hope your friend gets through the "messy" stuff ok.

Don,alot of knifers go strictly by book value. Up here in Michigan you don't come across older mint knives that often and at shows or club meetings they usually bring more than book prices. The 6380 pattern has always been a sought after pattern and can get kind of pricey. I've bought a lot of beauties from paladin and his descriptions of his knives has always been accurate.

Thanks Jim, I have noticed the 6380 is obviously very popular. I will have to just keep my eyes open if I don't get the one I'm watching right now. Paladin sure does have some fine lookin' knives for sale, both ebay and the store front here! I'm gonna be headed for bankruptcy if I don't watch myself

Don, you just need to learn how to be resourceful. I cut back on a lot of unnecessary spending in order to buy knives. My favorite meal now is macaroni and cheese and if I take the wife out to eat, it's to Wendys. I still have a hard time convincing the wife her clothes look fine and there's no need to buy anything new. I'm fortunate in that I get the mail before she does.

hey Jim, catch anything yet? surely them bass ain't spawnin this late? The spawn was all screwed up this year from the funky weather. I have a couple 80's, 83's and 08's most are XX and USA and 10 dot but I have a couple that are "just dotted". I don't mind dotted knives at all I just used that quote becuase many people seem to avoid anything newer than 1970 but I don't mind as long as they are pre 1980

I'm the seller of the 6308 discussed here. The auction finished and feedback has been posted, so please check it out.

I'm auctioning off twenty-five Case 70's dots knives I accumulated in the late 70's and I'm doing my best to describe them accurately. If you check out my feedback (I'm also mtds on eBay) you'll see that buyers often say the knives are better than described.

Regarding pricing, I pick a price by searching eBay for closed auctions and then try to price mine in the same ballpark as earlier sales. Sometimes I get it right and sometimes I don't. This 6375 didn't sell, but at least I know what price to ask when I relist it.



On some patterns that change hands pretty often, this works OK, but if you have something unusual, like the ten-dot 64047P that I've got up right now, it is a real guessing game. I resort to reserves in some of those cases. I know that a reserve puts a burr under some folks' saddle, but it is a useful tool in some situations...given the combination of sniping software with a fixed ending-time auction. Add in eBay's hostile attitude toward small timers and it is just no fun anymore. After this batch of knives, I'm finished with eBay.
It has been great fun collecting and owning knives, but it is time for me to let go of some of my material things. I'm holding on to my users, so my kids can take their choice of those when the time comes. A knife they've seen in my hands may mean more to them.
I'm not a regular here, as you can see from my post count, but I've learned here and enjoyed the company. I'll continue to drop by when the knife fever flares up! Thanks to all of you for your big and small contributions to a great hobby.

Great bunch of users you got there. Just wanted to say thanks once again, that 6308 really is in mint condition . I have definitley caught the "knife fever."

mtds, Those Case knives are some of my favorites. I don' t care if they're dotted or not, they are just well made, good looking knives that are great to look at. You should open up a store here on AAPK and sell some of your vintage knives. Kaleb, I got those bass to hit on crawlers late in the evening and had a great time.
