All About Pocket Knives

Hey guys, does this one look legit to yall? I have bought from this seller before with no problems but I believe others have had issues with him. If it is correct, I am going for it. It just looks really new to be so old. All opinions and expertise is appreciated. Thanks, Kelley

I have owned quite a few PAL knives including the scout pattern, and everyhting about that one looks correct to me. It does appear that it has been cleaned and buffed.

Would be interesting to know what in the pictures tipped you off to that it was cleaned and buffed?......................Does look like a fine knife.

for one P&T the highly buffed sander scratches on the blade, it wouldn't have left the factory like that, someone didn't refine thier grits enough.

The inside of the punches were NOT polished on those knives, but this one has been. The main blade is down some; it does not have the full spear shape. It is, in general too shiny for that age of knife. The screw driver especially has some rounding of edges you would not expect on a factory knife. The jigging does not match front to back, IMO. Partial rehandle?

I sure hope not Charlie... I don't mind a blade being buffed but I really want no part of a rehandle on an older knife like this. Anyway, I am top bidder and I bid to win it. If I made a mistake, it won't be the first one and I'm sure not the last either! lol! Thanks for your opinion, Kelley

It could be that more material was polished from one side of the bone when it was made, Smoke. You'll see when you get it. All my remarks were negative, but it's still an interesting knife!

Muskrat and Upnorth.............................thank you for the comments they are enlightening.....Some day when I am old and retired maybe I can be an expert too!..............after looking closer I did notice something very odd to me............................................The Cuticle blade seems to be backwards! (I don't know if that is the correct term for it)...I have a couple older Case pen knifes with that kinda very small hook shaped blade.

Maybe I am wrong.......the edge must be on the other side.....never seen a blade like that....or how it would sit closed.

the thin pointed blade is a leather punch. the other is a can opener.

Not the Leather punch....but the small blade with the concave or convex curve to it depending on how you look at it, which apears to be behind the leather punch.

that would be the other blade, a can opener. it's an old remington style.

Kelley, I don't know about the knife in question, but I have dealt with this seller quite a bit and have found him to be honest and trustworthy in every way. Jeff is a great guy and I know he'd make things right on anything he sold if there was a problem. It's been my experience with him that he UNDERstated his knives in the description. The ones I've gotten from him have all been right on the money or better. Good luck.......

That can opener blade is the 2-piece Tilman design. I think Remington began using it in 1926 or 1927.

Well, I thought I bid to win at $75.00. Guess I'll never know if it was just buffed on the blades or a more in depth "unauthorized" restoration! lol! Somebody wanted it more than me, but it's a good thing I was at work when the auction ended. No tellin what I might have done if I had been settin at the computer. Thanks all for your opinions. This knife really took me for a loop............................Didn't realize that that was a two piece blade can opener......Knife collecting made me realize that I needing to get BiFocals.....all be it the weakest level......the funny thing is that with my glasses off I can pretty much see 20/20 to about 8 " away and still better than with my glasses on when it's that close!
