All About Pocket Knives

I recently acquired this older looking Wostenholm knife. It has wood scales and a gunstock pattern. There is an interesting ivory 'bit' at the end. Does anyone know what purpose this might serve or anything else about this type of knife. ?

Thanks for the hint Mossdancer . That 'bit' at the end seems to be for bark lifting/separating. I'll have to learn more about the process to know exactly how it would be used. The modern budding knives have a barklifter about 1 inch long and mostly made of brass or some other metal. The ivory must have broke at some point or just wore down. It seems quite smooth so maybe just well used in the past. How did I do? s-k

Great, I understand some unscrupulous types tried to grind or alter them to look more like a more valuble gunstock jack also.
