Winchester lockback…Who made it?

I purchased this knife some 15 years ago I guess in a small gun shop when on vacation. It is rugged and well made and it has been a good user.
I remember having a long knife talk with the owner and in his opinion it was one of the better Winchester knives he had sold for years.
It is stamped “440 stainless”, that's all.
I think Blue Grass Cutlery made many Winchester knives or had them made.
No country of origin usually means imported, but from where? Could it be made in Japan..? ::hmm::

Speaking of Winchesters and who made them...

It may be older than 15 years. I don't really remember...

Without the USA stamp,it definitely was made off shore...It being 15+ years old,my guess would be Japan.

Thanks!

It just felt right in my hand, so I bought it. A bit too early for the “China Knife Era” and much better made than the early China made American brand knifes. Not cheap either...

Japan it must be!

I have a few very old pocket knives I bought many years ago from SMKW that are stamped "made in Japan". The blade steel really holds an edge. I use them once in awhile to carve with. They are probably as old as your Winchester knife is. I'll bet yours has good steel in the blade too. :D

I don't know exactly which steel is used, but it performs well! ::nod::
