All About Pocket Knives

When doing filework on the springs; can a knife be taken apart, with out removing the handles? I guess what I am asking is; will it come apart by, removing the bolster pins? The handles are glued on and not pined. Thanks.

if you are "lucky" the scales won't crack when you split the bolster pins and rocker pin. use as thin a pin cutter as you can and work gently.

Thanks johnnie, I had forgotten about the rocker pin; I was focused at the pins on each end.

I know one guy who does it without taking it completely apart (our fellow member and scrimshander Colin) RealMontannan. He has moved and was building a new shop last I talked to him and needed Back Surgery just after Christmas or something like that. He has a store here, Paterson Custom Knives. I'd been giving him time to heal - I guess it's past that time now. I didn't realize it had been that long.

if the rocker pin is exposed, you can carefully dremmell the head away and use a punch to remove. this will take a lot of stress off the handle material.

I talked to Colin a few days back, he's in his new place and just trying to get his new shop rewired and insulated. Can't wait till he's back in business I have a rooster I need some scrimshaw on.
