All About Pocket Knives

Hello All;
Bartered for a boot knife this past weekend.
The blade was covered with a rubberized type material, Had to clean off tang to discern marking.
It is marked Western over USA 777 over Stainless, I find several western marks but not that one. If someone has documentation I would appreciate the years of manufacture. The blade is 4 3/8" with a full dagger cut, the handle is checkered rubber. The sheath is a typical western basket weave pattern with boot clip.

From Goins' Encyclopedia...first used about 1978, after the move to Longmont, CO.

They usually have a letter of the alphabet denoting the year made...beginning with A= 1977, and so on.

The Standard Knife Collector's Guide has a picture of the 77 pattern on page 305...however it says the blade is 5" in length, with a "blood groove"???

577= Buckhorn
L77= Leather
277= Pearl composite

Sorry...guess that wasn't much help.

You might try the Camillus forum at bladeforums...but they aren't very responsive...other than Tom Williams, who is retired.

I have found yhe same model numbers you have, but nothing about the 777. Wonder if the first 7 could be a year indication also or a different handle material.

Thanks, after further inspection I see a upper case M under the last s in stainless. also this handle is probably wood painted black. Sounds like a duplicate of the sergeants to me. Also has the fat V twixt tang and blade.
Thanks for the info. I am working on a few old switchblades so I will probably migrate to other site again. Those guys including you are terribly smart.

I digress, thanks for the new links. LT is definitely the most knowledgeable person I have ever asked a ? about switchblades too.

Ag Teacher is the best about repairs that I know. Was gonna have him repair an old stiletto, Read up on Texas Knife Law. They are a forbidden fruit down there. Hope he reads this, the law is so definite I didn't even want to write him about it.

Certainly did not not mean to diminish your vast knowledge on anything with an edge.
