Scored this new in box 2007 Remington Renegade Cheetah. Says made in USA on box and tang. Did Remington make it or someone else?

That one was made by Bear & Son in Alabama. Camillus made most of them from the 1980's til they went under.

During the period between WWI and WWII Remington was a force in the cutlery industry and one of the most prolific cutlery manufacturers in the world. When Remington Arms sold their cutlery tooling and exited the cutlery business, they retained the rights to the Remington trademark. There was a period between then and early 1980s when I don’t think anyone was making Remington knives (at least not authorized versions). With the popularity of knife collecting Remington authorized Camillus to produce reproductions. Those were actual reproductions of original Remington patterns, the main difference being the use of stainless steel and Delrin handle covers in place of the original bone covers, and the original carbon steel blades.

Camillus-made Remington reproductions have become sought after collectables. In fact there are collectors of those reproductions who don’t even know they are reproductions of the original knives made by Remington. Since the demise of Camillus several other companies have been authorized to make “Remington” knives - some are faithful reproductions but some are just knives with Remington stamped on them. And unfortunately there are some that have been made with the Remington stamp, by counterfeiters. A few years ago I was gifted an authorized reproduction Remington scout knife, made by Bear, that was pure junk. As with everything else these days, caveat emptor is the rule.

Thanks guys it sounds like every other Bear knife that can be hit or miss. This one seems pretty decent.
