Another estate find that I need help with

Everyone,
thank you for talking the time to read. I was told this sword is from the Civil war, CHATGPT supports that, in general, (age, style, etc..), but suggests that it was not a "field weapon". I would like to see if anyone has information/knowledge that would help me frame up its story and value if I were to sell it
thank you
tom

to AAPK, rsax40tc!
Can't tell you much about your sword except years ago I had a couple very similar to yours, the handles were ivory and the were decorated with embossed unknown symbols. A good friend told me they were Masonic dress swords, so I gifted them to him seeing he was a Mason.
A "field weapon" would certainly have a much heavier blade so maybe a search for "dress sword" might yield some information.

I don’t know about the sword but ChatGpt needs more education regarding
knives ( and I assume swords). It has made several errors in the past months.
I know about it’s disclaimers.

Looks like a fraternal ceremonial sword. The three linked Os could be Oddfellows.

According to ChatGPT “
It has become a paradox: an era of hyper-connectedness and rapid technological leaps, yet defined by a deep sense of societal division, economic anxiety, and shifting global power dynamics.”

CHATGPT was simply a reference, which, by the way, pointed me to this forum. For a novice in this space, it was a great place to start

well said…..you dug deeper than most which is superb…..most people read the first few sentences in a lookup and immediately jump to conclusions which are often 180-degreees misplaced…..did you get the answer to were seeking or is anything still uncertain at this point?
We’re a friendly bunch here but we cut our teeth researching at libraries and not AI-BOTS if that helps explain the techno-challenge. Not an excuse, just a point of reference.
