All About Pocket Knives

Bought this one as a project, cleaned entire knife up, added black liner/bolster border, rescaled and fixed the chipped tip, mirrored the blade and sharpened.
Found a NOS Coast sheath in Seattle that was made for this model.

I’ve never really been a lockback man, I’d actually fixed that up for my boy. He loves lockbacks, and the icing on the cake was finding the NOS Coast sheath that was made for that model, to put it in. After we got it home, it looked like someone used the poor thing for a hammer and a pry bar. Was a fun little project and has anew lease on life.

Superb save. That looks like a million dollars after that rehab. I like the green handles with that black spacer. I prefer a lockback myself, after having a slip joint fold on me in use, it convinced me that my serious EDC should have a locking mechanism.

Thank you for the kind words. I did the rehab, but the lad chose his liner and scale colors, haha. I’ve carried an Old Timer 8OT for as long as I can remember, and yes had them buckle in use. I’ve learned to not use them as hard as I’d like to and grab my Leatherman Wave off my hip in the sheath for anything more than small tasks.

The green scale is an epoxy with gold glitter in it, photos really don’t do it justice, it really pops in sunlight, especially with the polished brass.

Oh man - nice job on this....and what a find on that sheath! I recently picked up a Coast Cutlery model 541 (Tak Fukuta piece)...absolutlly love it. Nice work on yours - I am enjoying seeing your work.

Thank you, yeah this was a fun little project, it’s nice and pretty quick when you don't have to do a complete teardown and look for parts, wait on shipping, etc.

Nice work, I like the extra touch of the black borders.

Thank you, when my boy had picked out the scales, i didn't realize that they were very transparent. So, after I’d sanded and prepped the scale pocket (brass) it was shiny, and i was thinking after i stuck it with epoxy, the brass over time would give the transparent green a funky coloration, so i put the liner and border roughed in and i really liked the look, so i epoxied it in.

I attached a photo of a RR 5” folder I finished last weekend, and I changed the supplied paakawood scales with spalted ash, and added orange liners and borders. I really like the contrast, plus makes a nice little accent band.
