All About Pocket Knives

Hello! I’m a new collector! I’m loving it but I’m also learning. I don’t have many social media accounts. eBay and whatnot only. I started collecting case, mostly by colors, I’ve gotten several of each, about 10 different colors so far. I’m starting to go after odd/rare colors I’ve seen. But I hit a dead end quickly only using eBay and whatnot. I’ve bought a few from AAPK. Is there other ways on the internet to find knives? For example, I’ve just learned case made a gray synthetic sod buster jr. I can only find images. No sellers yet. Any help on ideas would be awesome!

to AAPK! I use a picture to do a Google image search, it works sometimes. You don't have to worry about AAPK purchases, but watch out for eBay sellers. There are plenty of old knife counterfeiters out there. Modern tacticals get counterfeited as well. You can always post a picture on AAPK and ask about authenticity. There are many good reference books too.

Thank you! I get a lot from eBay. I try to buy new stuff with box. Hopefully I don’t run across a counterfeit! But I’m sure I will at some point.
Everytime I do a google image search it finds the image but when you go to a site, it always says out of stock. I was wondering if there were other sites that sellers are on maybe.

Collectors into collecting newer production Case knives would do well to join the Case Collectors Club https://www.casecollectorsclub.com/ and the Shepherd Hills collectors club. You’ll find mostly like-minded collectors there, whose collecting focus is primarily Case, especially the newer made-to-be collectable Case knives. Both have want ad sections where members can post requests for knives they’re seeking. JMO. Some shy away from those sites when they find they have to pay a fee for membership. Like many things in life, you generally get what you pay for.

It’s just more varied than what you’ll find some other places where Case is the primary or exclusive focus.

Others have given excellent advise. 1 other thing to consider, is going to knife shows. I'm not sure which part of the country you live in, but if you are within a 1-2 hour drive of a knife show, it is a great place to see 1000's of knives, handle them, and compare them. I have a list of 50+ major knife shows all on this one webpage, organized by date. Good luck! The hunt for new knives is the most exciting part.

Buy the knife Not the Story. And when dealing with Vintage knives, if you think your paying a little more than its valued at , dont worryvif you really want it and its a nice example.I dont know how many times I purchases a knife I wanted at a (higher than Market value) price.However you just need to hang onto it a bit and the value typically will Go up and you will probably end up with a profit depending how long you hold onto it. I dont think I have any regretful purchases . Always ask questions and if a photo isnt good or a bad angle to evaluate ask for better photos.Never Chase a seller with somthing your interested in and if they dont reply to Messages or give better photos, stay away. People take photos of worn knives , bent knives, reshaped knives in ways to make the k ife look best .If your ever at a Vintage knife page and theres not consistancy to how the photos are taken of different knives and this knife has photos of it closed but other knives arent shown closed They can be hiding the blade been shortened Or they might not show a good photo of the rear on one knife when they do others ans its because theres gaps or bends in liners. Anyway most important is Do your homework. A fool and his money will soon be parted.

As a new collector buy what you like and what you can afford. If you have questions about a knife, ask here before buying. But most of all, don't give any second thoughts about what another collector may think of the knife you bought. You didn't but it for anyone but yourself.

Now. if you are trying to be an "investment collector" or a get rich quick re-seller; disregard everything I said except about asking for advice here.

I got on here tonight hoping to find a schedule of knife shows, but figuring I would have to ask the question. Thank you very much for putting this on here. I have only been to 2 in the Smokies and 1 in Lexington, Ky. Lexington was my favorite because my grandkids live there, so I get double the pleasure.

that before you get too serious about collecting a particular
color, brand, style, etc do a small amount of research or
ask here if that particular knife type is affordable ( we all have limits
on our resources ) and to what extent can you expand your
collection easily ( rarity).

Don’t be surprised that as collection goes on you expand the
types you like. This has happened to me

This is definitely not going to be a popular opinion, but FaceBook has a ton of people that auction/sell knives. Many of these people sell Case, both old & new & many of the hard to find pieces. I don’t collect Case due how much many cost, but I do enjoy watching some of the shows. I have done pretty good on some of these shows on the older stuff I do collect. Again, this is probably a very unpopular opinion, just giving another option.
