All About Pocket Knives

Many years ago I had a little tube of blade polish for carbon steel blades. It worked chemically and had nearly no abrasive. It looked like white tooth paste.

Where can I get something like that? I can't find any.

All of the polish I’ve used is abrasive. It is so fine it really can’t be felt, but if you have to rub the cleaner with a rag and it turns black it will have micro abrasive in it. Case paste works well as does Wensol or Flitz paste. Good luck.

Eagle One Nevr-Dull is a can of horrible smelling damp rags. It is sold in auto parts stores. It contains petroleum distillates and ammonia. Its warnings write for automotive and marine use only, [meaning not for use in the kitchen], and skin irritate. I could not detect the presence of any abrasive. The only other metal polish in my house that does not contain abrasive is Brasso. Brasso is a thin liquid. While Brasso's label writes it is also for polishing other metals I have only used it on brass. I strongly prefer the classic Mother's Mag which is also in auto parts stores. It contains very, very fine abrasive. It is a white cream. It also polishes pots and pans and the mag wheels it was named for. Case Paste is only sold in small tubes which makes it expensive. In use it is not significantly different from Mother's Mag.

Agreed. Mother’s Mag Polish works really well for a number of cleaning and polishing jobs.

My choices are either Simichrome or Flitz, by there are many choices that will work well.

I got a stick of green buffing compound and stropped my knife. That might be good enough.

I use Wenol on pretty much everything, It has a very mild abrasion but won't hurt celluloid and doesn't take off etches. It works amazingly well on pearl and brings out the green and blue colors. I get it on line and a tube lasts a long time.____Dave

Just like the knives we collect, everyone has their brand. For the quick clean, I too use Mothers mag Wheel polish. It's inexpensive and comes in a tub.

But for my treasures, I use GunBrite. It comes in a cammo tube about the size of toothpaste, has a mild oder, but nothing offensive. Because it is formulated for guns, it removes all kinds of debris and oxidation. It cleans and protects against fingerprinting, moisture, and leaves a polished finish without an oily finish. GunBrite also does not contain silicon or waxes.

At $6.99 - $8.99 (depending on where you purchase it) It's not that expensive, unless you use it often. Then Mother's is the better value.
Just remember your capitonyms - adding polish puts a shine on things, being Polish adds a shine everywhere!
