All About Pocket Knives

A new friend of mine sent me a cutlers anvil (or stiddy, or steady) to try out.
He is James Hoelscher from Anchorage, and has the YouTube channel "Warrior Werks".
James is a great knife mechanic, and makes Ulu knives (a tribute to his Yupik heritage), and rehandles a lot of knives in Elk antler, Walrus Ivory, and Mammoth ivory.
The anvil is his own design, and is very different from most that I have seen. It is a lot heavier than I expected (6 lbs!) and the etch is really cool.
He also sent a tin of his "Blade Blubber" for me to try.
I have been out of town, and I am ready to take it to the shop tomorrow morning and try it out!

Y'all check out his channel. And if this sounds like an advertisement, I apologize. But the man gifted these to me and I have a hard time not bragging on them!

That stiddy looks awesome. A bit shiny though, needs some shop time patina on it

That is an awesome stiddy!
I like the leather on one side, that won't scratch bone or metal.
Nice design, it would be nice to work with one like that for a while. I see some possibilities in it that are not on a regular stiddy.

That cutlers anvil is a mighty nice addition to any shop. I bet you cannot wait to try it out.

That's a fine gift, and I'm having a hard time thinking of any issue with that design. Most of the magic takes place on the top of the stiddy, after all!

I would prefer the front be longer so it would slide all the way through the knife.
