A typical eBay listing

VINTAGE QUEEN Barlow.
Two blades.
Bone Handles with no cracks or chips. Great opening and closing except for when it doesn't.
Never carried or sharpened. Only made for six months, super rare knife. $350 or best offer

It’s actually quite comical sometimes how people deceive others. There was maybe a time where some of us may have fell for a knife like that. Early in the collecting years not having the knowledge or being naive. But now I flat out laugh. Although I do feel bad for the guy who falls for the deception.

That is a great example of why NOT to trust Flea-Bay listings as the end-all and be-all of prices!!!
I wanted to buy an old sugar cane machete at a flea market last Sunday, I ask how much and he says $40, it from WWII. I look for any markings and there are no markings. I ask how he knows it from WWII. He says that there is one on Flea-Bay for $70 that looks like it.
...His son shows me a picture of the listing
... this is the new appraisal system I see out there in the streets. How do I know the guy on Flea-Bay knows anything about anything? How do I know it is the EXACT same machete? I've collected machetes for 40 years. I am not an expert, but I know when NOT to spend my money... like last Sunday....

I would imagine they made thousands of those backspring covered Barlows for years, given the plentiful amounts I have seen.

I’ll repeat one of my main peeves - “see photos for description.” There’s a knife I was going to bid on today and decided not to because if the seller doesn’t want to describe the knife, I feel like he must be hiding something.

I hate that too! I think they copy words from previous listings to make it very easy.
